Louise’s Birth Story

I wanted to let you know that we had our baby girl, Beatrix Rose, on 2 August (the day after our due date). I don’t know where the time has gone since!

In the end, Beatrix turned head down but I was induced on the Whittington labour ward because my waters had broken without contractions and we faced the GBS infection risk.  That meant I was hooked up to monitors and the syntocinon drip in a horizontal position so wasn’t able to move around at all.

Despite all that, I was able to use the techniques you taught us to get through most of the contractions, using only gas and air as pain relief towards the end of a quick labour (around 3 hours first stage and 20 minutes pushing). In fact the hypnotherapy worked almost too well as the midwives and medical team were adamant that I was only in the early stages when in fact, I was 9cm dilated! I was pleased that Beatrix arrived wide eyed and alert with an apgar score of 9 (10 after ten minutes). She continues to be lively and lovely.

Thank you for all your help in preparing for the birth and for your part in our birth story. I’m still listening to some of the relaxation tracks as I attempt to be a calm parent.
